Manufacturing Site Relocation

Scope of work

Our client in the U.S. asked us to move one (1) of their manufacturing operations to Mexico - to cut down on manufacturing costs and increase profitability.

Our assignment was to relocate their manufacturing facility in the U.S. to Mexico in a maximum of 26 days. It included purchased parts, manufactured parts, production equipment & tools, assembly lines and finished goods for a value of over US$20M.

Activities

Develop the plan to make it happen and launch.
Design special packaging to reduce damages during transit.
Designate billing coordinator for export-import documentation.
Form team for packaging and documenting.
Ensured packing slips were included in each package to simplify organization when arriving at final destination, and that weight was registered and controlled for shipping purposes – to comply with US DOT.
Ensured export documentation was accurately completed.
Coordinated shipments with transportation companies.
Ensured customs brokers received export documents and goods.
Ensured goods were imported into Mexico and timely delivered to final destination.

Results

Worked +12 hour shifts for 23 consecutive days to get the job done before deadline.
All shipments documented, exported, imported and delivered to final destination (Monterrey, NL, Mexico) without delay.
Goods damaged in transit = 2 manufactured pieces that could be reworked and utilized.
Goods lost in transit = 0 (zero).
Documentation process allowed receiving sister company to easily and rapidly assign new location of goods in warehouse.
Saved nearly 50% of relocation budget (packaging, documentation, customs brokers fees, duties and freights).
Required (31) 48Ft. vans, (5) Flat-Beds and (3) Low-Boys.
